Unfortunately, Cali’s life has not been easy. She was rescued from euthanasia by

Pits to Pets in 2018. She has been in boarding since her rescue, but it is extremely hard on her. Thankfully her best friends (and PF volunteers) Tom, Nancy, and Jackie take Cali on outings each week to alleviate the stress she endures in boarding. Cali loves walks, naps, car rides, burgers, and quality time with those she loves.

Thanks to our generous donors, Cali has participated in swimming and training classes and she has mastered all the basics of the K9 Ambassador Program! Cali was one of Pawtastic Friends' first graduates, but more help is needed to find a home for her. Please consider donating to our Ambassador Program.

Pawtastic Friends K9 Ambassador Program is an advanced program developed to allow the scholars to further their training and get certified by the American Kennel Club. Dogs are eligible based on their skill levels. Most have mastered basic enrichment training and have been socialized. Our partner,

Michael’s Angel Paws, administers our training and conducts the testing.

The AKC develops two distinct courses to get certified:

  • Canine Good Citizen (CGC)

  • Novice Trick Dog Title (TKI)

The Canine Good Citizen course provides ten skill lessons that scholars must master, as dictated by the American Kennel Club. The course is six classes, with the last being the test.

Some required skills include:

  1. Walking through a crowd

  2. Follow sit, down, and stay in place commands

  3. Coming when called

  4. Reaction to another dog

  5. Reaction to distractions

Novice Trick Dog title requires a dog to perform ten skills from the American Kennel Club’s ‘Novice list’ to earn the title. If a dog has a CGC certificate or an AKC title, five Novice tricks will earn a scholar the title. The course is six classes, with the last being the test.

Some required tricks include:

  1. Bark on cue (“Speak”)

  2. High five

  3. Spin in circle

  4. Find it (find treat or scent item hidden under a cup or object)

  5. Crawl (dog on belly, crawls at least 3 body lengths)

Cali graduated with honors and she is ready to find her fur-ever home!

Cali is available for adoption through Pits to Pets.

Please share her story so that she may finally find her happily ever after.
