Protecting Your Pets from the Summer Heat!

Summer is quickly approaching and with summer comes hot temperatures. It is up to us to protect our pets from the blistering sun. Did you know if the temperature is above 77 degrees; the ground is too hot for our pups. Here are a few other tips to ensure both you and your pups enjoy a summer of fun....

  1. Walk your dogs either early morning or late evening.

  2. Keep plenty of water for hydration.

  3. Do not leave your pets outside in the sun and heat for long periods of time.

  4. Shaded areas help keep concrete and patches of grass cooler.

  5. Do not keep animals unattended in cars. Cars are twice as hot and it only takes a couple minutes to cause harmful effects.

  6. Be mindful of signs that pets are overheated such as excessive panting, dry gums, heavy breathing, and drooling.

  7. If a dog is exhibiting heat related symptoms, remove the dog from the heat and apply cool water to his/her head, neck, and back.

It's our responsibility as pet owners to keep our friends safe. Let's make it a memorable summer of fun.
